Sitnasuak Elections Certified

Sitnasuak President Mike Orr announced that Becka Baker, Louis Green Jr. and Bobby Evans were elected to seats on the Sitnasuak board and two proposals passed.   “We’ve never done that before,” Orr said referring to the vote on proposed actions.

He explained one proposal: Item #3 was necessitated by complaints that non-shareholders were being involved in Sitnasuak  actions.  Now Sitnasuak shareholders will carry official identification cards. “It’s going to be expensive to issue 3,000 shareholder cards,” Orr added.

Item 4, a Feasibility study for operating a building for cultural events, was passed. “Shall Sitnasuak Native Corporation operate a “Qargi” or multi-purpose building for cultural events in Nome?” Sitnasuak voters answered YES on this proposal.
