Arlene C. Gore
Arlene C. Gore, 90, of Coward, SC, formerly of Florence and Effingham, SC, and of Alaska, died at her residence in Coward, SC on August 9, 2023.
She was the widow of the late William McLain “GOV” Gore.
Mrs. Gore was born April 5, 1933, in Alma, NC the daughter of the late Henry Mccallum Cottingham and Lena Mclean Cottingham of Florence, SC.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Florence for over 52 years prior to moving to Nome, Alaska in 1995 and was currently a member of St. Paul United Methodist in Coward, SC.
She and her husband lived in Nome, Anchorage, and Chugiak, Alaska, for 10 years and they were charter members of the Iditarod Historic Trail Alliance and she was a member of the Iditarod Trail Committee Inc. She was a volunteer in Nome and Anchorage for the Iditarod Sled Dog Race, volunteered at the Alaska Zoo, and on the board of directors at the Nome Community Center.
She named Dresdin Drive in Florence, SC. She was a former member of ETA chapter, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, The West Haven Garden Club and former director of the nursery and director of Mothers Morning Out at First Presbyterian Church in Florence, SC.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her sister, Madeline C. Huggins.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home Friday, August 11, 2023.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 12, 2023 at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home with the burial to follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
