Jerry Wongittilin Jr. (Alevghu)
Jerry Wongittilin Jr., Alevghu, was born on April 6, 1956 in Savoonga to Rose and Jerry Sr. Midwife Barbara Kogassagoon delivered him.
Jerry attended Savoonga Elementary School and Nome-Beltz High School but preferred to be a self-made man in Savoonga most of his life. He was a very accomplished ivory carver and active Savoonga volunteer fireman.
Jerry Jr. loved his family very much. He was a loving son, brother, cousin, and uncle, and father to his daughter, Dawn (Wee Wee) Oozevaseuk and grand-daughter Larisha Johnson. After his brother Wagner passed away, he continued to care for his nephew Homer and Bridgette Wongittilin, who he loved as his own children. He also had several pet dogs through the years, each of whom he named Pluto.
Jerry Jr. played the guitar in the original Savoonga rock and roll band, with his cousins Reggie, Frank, Horace, Johnny and Ben. He also was an avid video game player and spent hours playing with his nieces and nephews.
Jerry Jr. is preceded in death by grandparents Nick and Lucille Wongittilin, Miriam and Albert Kulowiyi, parents Rose and Jerry Sr, brothers Homer (stillborn), Michael and Wagner.
He is survived by sisters Sterling and Judy, daughter Dawn, grand-daughter Larisha, beloved nephew Homer and his children, and beloved niece Bridgette, and many other relatives.
The family would like to thank staff at NSHC and the Savoonga clinic, the City of Savoonga, the Native Village of Savoonga, Bering Straits Native Corporation, NSEDC, Orville Toolie and crew, and especially the people who cared for him in his last days both in Savoonga and Nome.
