John A. Shipton
John A Shipton passed at Providence Alaska Medical Center on October 29, 2021in Anchorage, Alaska. He was 85 years old. John was born in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Before marrying Virginia, he lived in Anchorage and then moved to the village of St. Michael where he managed a general store for Alaska Commercial Company for 22 years. He retired in 2001. He brought joy to many people in the community of St. Michael through the store and assisted through Norton Sound Health Corporation with his time and resources, earning volunteer service awards along the way.
They moved to the city and spent the last couple decades in Muldoon. He participated in platelet donation and was awarded with Advancing Aspheresis awards. He supported and enjoyed fellowship at Anchorage Baptist Temple and many family events involving his grandchildren to further their education and opportunities. He loved planning and going on many camping adventures, road trips and vacations. In his retirement years, John also enjoyed the community of car sales, where he made many lasting friendships.
John was preceded in death by his parents Kenneth Earl and Eva Belle, brother Merle and sons Jack and Lee.
He is survived by his wife Virginia of Anchorage and his children Melita, Debi, Paula, Glen and Wendy. He is survived by many grandchildren including Rachel, Paige, Alex, Paul, Alexa and Patrik; Skye and Glen Jr.; Sarah, Audrey, Sydney and Mason; Amanda, Michael and Jack. John is also survived by his niece Earlene and her family, Ruthie and her family, as well as Cassandra and her family. He leaves behind many great grandchildren, friends and loved ones.
