Rick Johnston
Rick Johnston of Goldendale Washington was born on October 3, 1948 in Nespelem Washington to Marlow and Barbara (Flatter) Johnston. He succumbed to lung cancer on October 31 in The Dalles, Oregon with his brothers by his side.
He is survived by his son Daniel Johnston, granddaughter Taylor, great granddaughter Avary, Portland; brothers Steve (Joyce) Johnston, Goldendale; Howard (Jeanette) Johnston, Dallesport; sister Connie (Matt) Riley, White Salmon; mother Barbara Johnston, White Salmon; and niece Tammara and nephews Derek, Jason, Izak and Alex.
Rick graduated from Goldendale High School in 1967, married Susy Bruner and joined the Navy. He lived twenty years in Nome and Ketchikan, Alaska, before returning to the Northwest and settling in Goldendale. He had two donkeys he loved and four cats that kept him company.
Rick had many great skills during his lifetime including singing and playing the guitar, barbering and cooking (he was a chef). He was quick to tell a joke and would entertain everyone for hours with stories of his many adventures. His nephews referred to him as “Uncle Buck” because he always brought his adventures with him. He was a loving and generous person. He will be missed and remembered by many.
A memorial and celebration of life will be Saturday July 8 at the Methodist Church in Goldendale Washington. There will be a short service followed by a gathering in the basement for sharing stories and visiting.
Condolences and sharing of stories may be sent to connie.riley@hotmail.com.
