Frank “Kiameo” Oxereok Jr. (Sonny)
Frank “Kiameo” Oxereok Jr. (Sonny) was born to Frank Sr. and Evelyn Oxereok in Lost River, AK on March 20, 1955.
He went to be with the Lord and his loved ones February 15, 2025.
Sonny went to Wales Day School till the 8th grade and attended William E. Beltz High School where he graduated in 1973. He was very proud that he got to travel out of the country to Spain. After high school he went to heavy equipment training at Portland, Oregon and then joined the Alaska National Guard in 1981.
Sonny was VPSO for Wales in the early 80's. He met his wife Ronnie in the mid 70's and they were married May 30, 1980 by Father Greif. Sonny's passion in life was hunting with his late father and brothers Gilbert, Olman (Clyde), and Echo (Stanley) Oxereok every spring.
Every spring he made sure his Auntie Ida Oxereok had her subsistence food for the winter.
We grew up camping at Mint River where our late mother, Evelyn was born. He continued to provide for mom after dad's health prevented it. Sonny and Ronnie's children grew up camping every year at Mint River till 2016.
During his time he represented our community of Wales as Mayor of Wales, President of Native Village of Wales Tribe, Bering Sea Elders Group, NSEDC, Eskimo Walrus Commissioner, Kawerak Migratory Bird, NSHC Rep. for Wales, Wales Native Corporation, AEC, Health Aid and SAR.
Sonny cared deeply for our children and community, always wanting everyone to be safe and happy. He saved lollypops and gum from his meeting trips and drove around town giving the kids a piece during the summer. He was fondly called, “Papa Sonny” by all the children in Wales.
