Troy Elmer Weyiouanna “Anivgan”
Our beloved son, husband, father, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin and friend Troy Elmer Anivgan Weyiouanna, was born on August 17, 1983 to Clifford and Shirley Weyiouanna. Brooke Olivia, Troy’s first born, always brought happiness and love to receive recent photos from time to time and thought of her often.
Troy married his wife Lucy Iyatunguk on September 13, 2027. Together they had four children: Cadence Rose Ann, Cason Devan Taylor, Kyrie Robert Charles and Kaylor Shay Norman Mimic Weyiouanna.
Troy Elmer attended Shishmaref School and graduated in 2002. During his high school years, the Shishmaref Northern Lights boys basketball team qualified for state every year. In 2002 the Shishmaref Northern Lights placed first at State. Troy was honored with the State Most Valuable Player, averaging 60 points per game.
After high school, he participated as the assistant coach for the boys basketball team. He was known for his “three’s” and many buzzer-beater game winning shots.
After his son Cason was born, he made his own team, “CDT” and picked his own guys to run with him for a few years. Every game he’d make sure that he always had that Team Leader attitude.
Throughout the years, he had a collection of numerous all-tournament team medals and trophies. Troy made a lot of friends from all over. He had a passion for basketball and had so much love for the game.
Troy was employed at the Shishmaref Native Store, as an Educational Aide for the Shishmaref School, assisting in guiding with his father Clifford and brother Tyler. He worked in the community and did many local jobs.
Troy also served on our Native Village of Shishmaref IRA Council as the president for a three-year term. He volunteered his time when it came to Search and Rescue and went out to search when he was needed.
Troy was certified in carpentry and welding, and worked many roofing jobs in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Nome and Shishmaref. Troy was a very helpful person and if he wasn’t available, he would find help.
